One JLPT word a day, overlaid on your own photo — your widgets and wallpaper stay put. About five minutes to build.
Mix as many as you like — the card rotates through all of them together.

Shortcuts app → + in the top right. Name it Japanese vocab.
Create a Photos album called OpuO and put one photo in it — that's the backdrop the word card sits on.
Add Find Photos (Album is OpuO), then Get Item from List → First Item right after it. Skipping that second action causes a WFImage error later.
Add a Text action and paste the address from the box above — it already matches the level(s) you picked.
Add it directly below, taking the Text above as its input.
Base Image is the photo (the First Item from step 2). Overlay Image is the Contents of URL from step 4.
Choose Lock Screen, input the result of Overlay Image. Tap the small arrow and turn off both Show Preview and Crop to Subject.
Automation tab → + → Time of Day, any time you like, Daily. Choose Run Shortcut → Japanese vocab, then set Run Immediately and turn off Notify When Run.
No — the card is a transparent overlay on your own photo, not a full wallpaper swap, so widgets and your clock style stay exactly as they are.
Add Get Item from List → First Item right after Find Photos. Overlay Image needs a single photo, not a list of one.
Yes — edit the Text action's URL to match a new level combination, using the picker above to get the right address.
Each level combination rotates through its own words day by day — the bigger the combination, the longer before a word repeats (the full N5–N1 set takes a couple of years).
Yes. Delete the automation, then set any wallpaper you like the normal way in Settings. Nothing is left behind.
